One of my childhood favourite food, shark fin porridge. (During the making, no shark was harmed.) Joke aside, because the porridge was infused with the dried bonito flakes (柴鱼片) and the bee hoon act as the shredded fins. So in the past, my dad always tricked me in believing that this was how shark fin tasted like.
Listening to the auntie knocking her wok spatula against the wok while she was frying the bee hoon. A warm bowl of porridge with bee hoon filled with wok hei are enough to give me some comfort. Do remember to ask for their chilli sauce, sourly and garlicky, but please don't mix it into the porridge.
