One of my local friends insisted us to give this restaurant a try. When I researched on the food, I was seriously NOT impressed. However, with an open heart, we gave it a go. Took a 15mins cab ride from our hostel and immediately I was surprised by the size of the restaurant.
They had one stall for central kitchen and another three more for dinner area. Just by looking at the flow of the locals coming and going, I knew that we had come to a right place.
Specialized in all kinds of Pho. The most common one will be the pho cuon. They wrapped the lettuce and minced beef with rice paper. At first, I thought the taste will be bland and boring. However after the first bite, I realized my mistake. The heavily seasoned minced beef was the main source of flavours. If you still find them unseasoned, try dipping into the spicy and sour sauce and prepare to be amazed.
One of our favourites will be their Pho Cuon. They steamed the rice mixture into stripes then deep fried. Because of the hot oil, the rice stripes puffed up as the air within expanded. Resulted with these beautifully puffed stripes which also had a texture of rice crackers and topped with wok hei infused gravy. The gravy was so thick that it didn’t soften the crispy texture, but yet it was able to flavour them nicely. I could taste the wok hei from the gravy and gentle rice fragrant lingered in the palate.
Pho Phong Ran was a kind of dried pho which drowned with sweet and spicy chilli sauce and topped with roasted peanut. Nice contrast in texture and flavours by the roasted peanut and made it so interesting to eat.
After our lunch, I finally understood why Hanoi people loved this restaurant so much. Most of the items were carb based and best to share with family and friends. Great place to visit if you are looking for good and cheap eats.
